The Texas Bar Exam

Finishing law school alone is not enough to practice law. You must first pass a comprehensive and notoriously difficult exam covering almost all the things law students learned while in school called the Bar. But the Bar is not one unified test that will make you eligible to practice anywhere. In fact, every state has a different Bar exam. If a lawyer wishes to practice in a different state than the one they passed the Bar in, they must first take and pass the specialized exam for that state.

The same goes for Texas lawyers. The Texas Bar is a very difficult exam that requires months of intense preparation for most law school graduates who want to take the test. There are a number of test prep programs for the Texas Bar exam and many of these programs are intended for use by members of certain law schools.

The Texas Bar exam is intended to assess whether or not a potential attorney is competent to practice law in Texas. The test itself is broken into two major parts. The first portion is called the Multistate Bar Examinations or the MBE and contains legal information that is relevant to any state in the US. The second part of the test is unique to the many different aspects of Texas law.
