Replacing old windows can be a simple and effective way to reduce the amount of energy you consume each day. New windows can also give your home’s exterior an aesthetic facelift. If you are planning to invest in new windows in the near future, it can be beneficial to plan to incorporate the old windows into your home’s design.
Here are two creative projects you can complete using your old windows.
1. Make a creative room divider.
Separating a large and open room into several different living spaces can be a challenge. The old windows your contractor removes from your home in order to install new ones can easily be put to use as a room divider inside your home.
All you need to do is invest in some hooks that can be screwed into your ceiling, and some chain to help hold the windows in place. Thoroughly clean each window that you will be using to make your room divider, then attach lengths of chain that are long enough to allow the windows to hang a comfortable distance from the ceiling to the tops of three of the windows using a drill and some screws.
Measure the windows (leaving an equal amount of space between each unit) and use this measurement to install hooks in the ceiling where you want your divider to fall. Hang the windows from the hooks. The result will be a unique room divider that won’t obstruct your view or the distribution of natural light throughout your living space.
2. Make a unique pot hanger.
Hanging your pots and pans from the ceiling in your kitchen can be a simple way to free up more cabinet space. You can use your old windows to create an attractive pot hanger by adding some chain and using hooks that screw into the ceiling.
Measure how far you want your pots to hang down, then add lengths of chain to each corner of an old window that will accommodate your preference. Screw four hooks into the ceiling in your kitchen, and hang the window from these hooks using the chain.
Screw several more hooks into the wood frame of your window to serve as places where you can hang your pots and pans. If you want to make your old window more decorative, you can always add contact paper or photographs to the glass panes.
Finding simple ways to use old windows in your home’s design doesn’t have to be challenging. Turn your old windows into a room divider or pot holder the next time you replace the windows in your home.
